MAKE READY CHECK LIST

1. Housekeeping

A. Decks & Machinery spaces free of trash, buckets, debris, etc. that may blow or wash
overboard.

B. Decks & Machinery spaces free of oil, grease, and product residue that may wash
overboard during inclement weather. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

C. For heater barges, hot oil is properly stowed in appropriate containers inside the
containment area.

2. Hull

A. Hull and Cargo tank top free of noticeable holes or fractures. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

B. Hull and Cargo tank top does not appear to have any new or old damage of considerable
size, (i.e. hull set-in’s in excess of 1 ½” over a 12” length).

C. All deck fittings are in good condition and free of damage.

3. Void Compartments

A. All void compartments are dry with no standing water present. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

B. All void compartments do not appear to have product present from a possible leak. (If
marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

4. Spill Containments

A. All containments are free of standing water/liquid. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

B. All containments are free of noticeable holes or fractures. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

C. Ensure machinery space scupper plugs are in good condition, installed and hand-tight. This must be physically verified (i.e. hands on).

D. Cargo Tank Top scupper plugs are available, in good condition and not installed. (Scupper plugs should only be installed during transfers).

E. Drip pans are free of standing liquid and covers are properly closed. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

F. Drip pan drain valves are closed, leak free and pipe plugs/caps installed and tight. This must be physically verified (i.e. hands on).

5. Hull Markings

A. “Danger Keep Out” legible (where required).

B. Draft marks legible

C. Gauge heights legible

D. Cargo tank number/pipeline numbers legible

E. “Diesel” legible on fuel tanks.

F. Emergency engine and generator shut down signs legible.

G. All required signage legible.

H. Red Flag – Red portion should be visible.

I. Vapor header properly marked and identified. (red, yellow, red).

6. Access Hatches

A. Gasket in place and in good condition

B. Dog Bolts / Wingnuts in place, “Never Seezed” and fully operational.

C. Hinges in good working order, hatches open/close properly. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

D. Hatch covers & rings free of holes and fractures. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

E. Hatches properly dogged down. This must be physically verified (i.e. hands on).

7. Barge Papers (Documents)

A. Mail boxes are in good shape

B. All paperwork dry and legible

C. COI, Piping Diagram, Strapping Tables, Security Plan Letter, Cargo Piping Test Certificate, Vapor Tightness Test Certificate, Vapor Drop Graph & Calculation Sheet, Cargo Transfer Procedures, Vessel Response Plan with OPA 90 Letter of Verification, Benzene Program (if applicable), D.O.I. and SDS are all accounted for. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

D. Expired documents disposed of.

8. Spill Kits

A. Spill kit drum secured to hull and cable in good condition.

B. Spill kit drum undamaged, cover in place and sealed.

C. If unsealed, spill kit contents accounted for.

9. Deck Winches

A. Wheels, guards & brakes in place, winch properly greased and fully operational. Wheels, guards & brakes in place, winch properly greased and fully operational.

B. Winch wires in good condition, no broken strands.

C. Proper size wire in place (1” in diameter) with a 3 foot factory eye or hard spliced eye with (2) two cable clamps.

10. P.V. Values

A. Housing & Stand pipe free of holes or fractures.

B. Flame Screen Intact.

11. Piping Systems

A. All piping systems and connections free of holes, fractures or leaks. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

B. All piping system flange connections tight with proper gaskets, bolts, studs and nuts in
each hole.

C. All drain valves, including steam condensate, closed and fitted with proper size plug and
hand tight.

D. All transfer/crossover hoses in good condition with proper size blinds, gaskets, bolts, studs and nuts on each end. Hose test certificate up to date.

12. Valves (Empty Barges Only)

A. Each valve opens, closes properly by hand.

B. All valves and associated hardware properly greased.

C. All packing glands tight with proper packing material.

D. Reach rod and associated hardware operational

13. Pumps

A. Pumps undamaged, no leaks, fractures or missing parts.

B. Packing glands and mechanical seals in place and not leaking.

C. Right angle or reduction gear fluid sight glasses clean and fluid at safe level.

D. Drive shafts are in good condition, greased with no excessive play or wear.

E. Turn the drive shaft by hand or by using a pipe wrench to ensure pump rotates freely with no noticeable noise. Do not use the PTO.

F. Pump cavity free of liquid (CAUTION: Refer to SDS of current/previous cargo to identify hazards and ensure proper PPE prior to cleaning pump cavity).

14. Pump Engines & Generator Engines

A. Service and Filter dates less than one year old.

B. All fluid levels at safe operating range.

C. All engine hoses in good condition, no cracks, splits, and all fittings are tight.

D. Engines starts; no noticeable fluid leaks; oil, fuel, coolant, etc… (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

E. Tachometer, throttle, gauges, AMOT/sentinel operational.

F. Emergency shutdown system operational. (Trip ESD while engine is off and try to start engine to verify). (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

15. Vapor Recovery Equipment

A. Vapor piping free of fractures, holes or damage. (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

B. Vapor header and vent stack swivel flange has proper gasket, pinned blind flange, bolt, studs and nuts in each hole.

C. Drain valves are closed, leak free and pipe plugs installed and tight. This must be physically verified (i.e. hands on).

D. No damage to alarm systems, sight glasses and electrical system. (Prior to transfer, test alarms) (If marked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

E. Wiper blades, bullet valve and stick gauges physically checked for correct operations. (Ifmarked “POOR”, NOTIFY SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY)

16. Diesel Fuel Tank

A. Fuel tank structure, piping and fittings free of holes, fractures or leaks.

B. Inches of fuel in the fuel tank and depth of fuel tank (example: 7″ of fuel in 30″ tank). If fuel level below 1/2 full, mark POOR and notify Dispatch immediately.

C. Flame screen properly fitted in good condition.

D. Hatch properly dogged down. This must be physically verified (i.e. hands on).

E. Drain valves are closed, leak free and pipe plugs/caps installed and tight. This must be physically verified (i.e. hands on).

Make ready Work

From bow to stern, from port to starboard, our maritime team will inspect all pertinent equipment to ensure that needed items are in place, equipment is in working order, and all last minute repairs are reported to the proper company individuals so that when the vessel can begin it’s work program without issues.
